Smash Burgers at Home

Beef

When you have a college boy home for the summer who’s working a 9 to 5, you have dinner READY the second he walks in the door. 🤣 And meat it ALWAYS on the requested menu. You can’t go wrong with the Smash Burgers at Home. The secret is adding that bun on top at the end and letting it steam. Oh! And a little homegrown Oklahoma beef also adds to the deliciousness. 🐄

Ingredients

2 lbs 85% lean pure ground beef

Olive Oil

Kosher Salt & Fresh Cracked Pepper

Cheddar Cheese Slices

Hamburger Buns w/ Seseme Seeds

1 Whole sweet onion, sliced

1 whole fresh jalapeño, sliced

Directions

Divide each pound of hamburger in to 4 quarters. Lay one piece of parchment paper down and add 1/4 of the meat to the top of the parchment. Smash thin with a large flat spatula. Put another piece of parchment on top and repeat with remaining beef.

In a cast iron skillet, add about a tablespoon of olive oil to the pan. When oil is hot, add the sliced onion and jalapeño to the pan. Sauté until slightly tender.

Season both sides of your first patty with salt and pepper and throw down on to the sautéed onions and jalapeño. Cook on side 1 for 3 minutes.

Take a flat spatula and scoop under the onions, peppers, and beef and flip together. Cook side 2 for 3 minutes. At the end of the 3 minutes, add a slice of cheddar cheese. Put lid on top until cheese is melted.

Scoot patty over and add the bottom bun to one side of the skillet to toast slightly and warm through. Add the top bun to the top of the cooked patty. Put lid back on until everything is done and steamy.

Add bottom bun to a plate. Top with cooked patty and bun. Add any condiments you prefer. Or eat all of this yumminess as is. Either way, you can’t go wrong.
