You’ve heard me say it a million times. I love Halloween. No, I don’t love the scary, demonic side that some have turned it into. I love the sweet, fun festivities. The community. The cute little kids dressed up in costume. The sound of “trick-or-treat” and the sweet “thank you’s” as they run away from my door with their loot. It’s a special holiday to me.
After I had children, I loved nothing more than planning my babies Halloween costumes. I even went so far as sending Halloween greeting cards, featuring my kids in their costumes, to all my friends and family every year. I know. A little over the top. But, that’s just how I roll.
I tend to get a little emotional this time of year. Mainly because my children are now 20 and 17. I miss them being little. No more baby costumes. No more watching them run up to the neighbors to trick-or-treat, bobbing up and down and spilling candy all along the way. I can still see them in my head. (Grayson in a chicken costume is forever burned into my memory…the best!)
So if you have little ones, cherish this time. Pay attention. Pause to dress them up. Video. Walk the neighborhood with them. Someday, those moments will be gone. And you’ll wish you had them back.
Until then, I will live vicariously through my friends that still have little ones. We now get invited to help them pass out candy because my new neighborhood has zero trick-or-treaters, for some reason. 🤷🏼♀️
But someday…some time far, far away 😆…I pray that we have grand babies. And when we do, it’s HALLOWEEN GAME ON! I’ve saved every single costume my children have ever worn. I hope my children will want to re-use a few for their babies.
Happy Halloween everyone. I hope you enjoy these pics of my kiddos from Halloweens gone by.
